TRYING NOT TO ADD TO THE GLOOMY MONEY NEWS AS POSSIBLE THIS WEEK

We had enough of it last week already 😩

Hello there,

How are you? I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and that the new week (and month) is off to a good start.

This is just a quick note to let you know that this week’s main newsletter will be arriving a little later than scheduled — you’ll receive it no later than Wednesday.

I initially drafted the newsletter towards the end of last week, in response to the recent University of Glasgow and DACS report about artist pay — an issue that has sparked a week of important conversations and reflections in the UK art world. Whilst it’s a vital topic and one I care about deeply and have been thinking a lot about, in terms of the structural issues as well as solutions, I felt there was an opportunity to offer something more uplifting and aligned with how I would like to engage with you. Also, there is already a lot of news about the recent report, and I am not sure how my added contribution to the conversation will directly benefit you. I don’t want you to have to deal with me ranting rather than offering real, practical solutions. I’ve also been inspired by recent experiences and ideas that I hope will benefit you, and get you motivated as we approach the end of the year.

In the meantime, if you did want to catch up on the discussions surrounding the recent UK Visual Artists’ Earnings and Contracts Report 2024, here are a couple of related articles:

Thank you for your patience — I look forward to sharing the updated newsletter and latest opportunities with you soon.
